NAM Interest Group: Mental Health, Emotional Well Being, and Aging: From Vulnerability to Resilience, and Flourishing (Chair: Elissa Epel, UCSF)

Date:
October 20, 2024
Time:
9 AM - 10:30 AM

Come hear four distinguished leaders in healthy aging research by Zoom!

With aging, at a population based level, there is more resilience – an increase in positive emotions, and wisdom, and lower levels of stress and mental health problems. On the other hand, older people are more vulnerable to emerging mental health conditions that stem from chronic disease.  We will discuss the trends of aging, stress, emotional well being, and mental health, key biological processes, and the role of individual- and population-level well being interventions that promote resilience, and flourishing.

Moderator: Elissa Epel, PhD, Chair of IG10, Professor and Vice Chair of Psychology, UCSF Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Science

Talk: Laura Kubzansky, PhD, MPH, Professor, Harvard University School of Public Health: Aging with Well-Being: psychosocial assets, deficits, and implications for population level interventions
